Pondok Candra, was completed in 2022, and is a modern eco-house with solar technology, an 80-metre well and a bio-septic tank, set in a large, tranquil, tropical garden sloping down to a river. It combines features of European and Balinese architecture, and sleeps a maximum of four.
The master bedroom and living room with gallery (which contains the second double bed) can be cross-aired with their many windows, and cooled with air-conditioning and/or ventilators to control humidity.
The bathroom, accessible both from the master bedroom and from the living -room (via a short corridor), contains an open-air shower, a bathtub for two with additional shower attachment, washbasin and WC.
The kitchen, with art-deco dining table and teak cupboards, has a large fridge with freezer compartment, a microwave, drinking water dispenser and a gas cooker with an oven. Basic cooking utensils are supplied.
The large master bedroom, which also comprises an antique desk with a view of the garden, and the living-room with gallery open onto a sheltered veranda with an unbroken view of the lush garden. You can see coconuts, bananas, pineapples and passionfruit from the windows and enjoy the heady scent of the Ylang-ylang tree and the calming sound of the river. The veranda is equipped with comfortable recliners and an antique round dining table.
The house is home to an Anglo-German couple for half of the year.
Pondok Candra can be booked for a minimum of three nights.
The house costs $100 per night, including breakfast.
A reduced rate is available for longer stays.
Lunch and/or dinner can be booked for an extra $5 per meal per person.
